Undated Loch

by Robin Fulton Macpherson

The little waves perhaps
in a remote  B.C.
or new this afternoon.

One day, present tense waves
were no longer present.
Their past tense has survived.

The watercolour dried
seventy years ago.
Sometimes when I watch it

the little waves still break
and the watercolour
still refuses to dry.
