Legend

by Robin Munro

I thought I heard
over the Kerry Kyle
a dead dog bark
from the other shore

a shepherd's dog
who swam the Narrows
to his man's Kilmichael grave
in a tale
I like to believe

love over water
over death.

My own dead Ben
barks sometimes in the night for me.
I let him be
