Stanley El Perro

(airson Dàibhidh)

by Babs Nicgriogair

Nochd thu nar làithean gruamach
àm-lòin
ann an raon-ghnìomhachais grod
ann an Glaschu glas
Mar lasair
làn grian
bho
àiteigin eile
nas blàithe
nas bòidhche
Àiteigin
eadar Granada ‘s a’ Ghrèig
ruadh agus rìoghail
mar phrionnsa beag
gun feum air crùn
oir bha thu coma
le criomagan
a’ cur grèim
air
ar cridheachan
thairis
 air crìochan,
ag ionnsachadh dhuinn
seinn
mu gach drudhag
dhìlseachd

Stanley The Dog
(for David)

You came to us in a sullen summer
Lunchtimes
In a grey yard
In the dear green place

A flash of sunshine
from
somewhere else
warmer,
bonnier,
someplace
between Granada and Greece,
redhaired and royal
a little prince
with no need of a crown
just
crumbs,
moving our hearts
across borders,
teaching us
to herald
each drop
of solidarity
